Massangeana Plant and Care

Massangeana Plants This is an unbranched, tree-like plant with sword-shaped arching leaves. Its dark-green leaves are 2 ft (60 cm) long and 4 in (10 cm) wide, and have a broad cream-to-yellow stripe down the middle. Strongly scented yellow flowers are occasionally produced on a plant but it rarely flowers indoors. As it grows, it will shed its lower leaves, leaving a bare stem with a cluster of leaves at its top. New plants may drop a few leaves. This is normal. It needs time to adjust after the shock of being moved to a new home.
  • Place your massangeana cane in indirect, bright sunlight for optimum growth. Mass canes will tolerate low light, but will grow very slowly. Darker or shadier areas are fine for this unique plant.
  • In hot weather or low humidity, mist the plant daily. Dust the leaves with water and a soft cloth as needed. This plant thrives in locations with 60 percent to 100 percent humidity.
  • Average room temperatures 60-75°F, 16-24°C work fine for corn plant. Care should be taken that it isn't exposed to temperatures below 55°F/13°C.
  • Keep the soil evenly moist . Massangeana is a drought-tolerant plant that prefers organic soils that are slightly wet.
  • Overwatering Massangeana plants often leads to root rot diseases, which kill the plant. Water no more than once a week .Wait until soil is extremely dry to the touch before watering the Massangeana Cane.
  • Feed monthly with a balanced liquid fertilizer diluted by half. For older plants it is recommended that you increase their fertilizing to weekly during the spring and summer. Be sure to always water before applying fertilizer for best results.
  • Mist frequently with warm water and remove all dead leaves. Leaf tips will go brown if the plant is under watered but this browning may be carefully trimmed.
  • The Massangeana Cane can be pruned regularly. The plant grows slowly and can tend to look weak in its topmost branches. If this happens, prune those branches away.
