The Kentia Palm and Care

The Kentia Palm Tree The Kentia Palm is characterized by a series of arching feather-shaped fronds radiating from small trunks in a dark green color. They are slow growers and are very durable house plants. Kentias are generally available in the 5-12 foot range for indoor use. Kentias do not have a tap root, and does very well in containers. They are usually grown as single plants until they reach a certain height. These palms grow pretty tall in rather small pots
  • Kentia is versatile and will tolerate lower light levels. A bright indirect morning sunshine provide enough light If spotting appears on the top fronds of the plant, this is an indication that it is getting too much bright light.
  • Plant your Kentia palm in potting soil mix that drains well and contains sand and peat. The pot used for planting should have a hole in the bottom so water can drain quickly.
  • Water the Kentia palm only when the top one to two inches of soil begin to dry out. When watering, let the water drain into the saucer and discard the excess water. If leaf fronds start to yellow and then turn brown, you are over watering the plant and leaf tips that droop and turn brown are signs of under watering.
  • Kentia palm likes a humid environment.Mist the plant leaves with tepid water to ensure optimum humidity conditions.
  • Feed the Kentia palm by using a water-soluble fertilizer Monthly feedings are suitable for this plant.
  • Mites and mealybugs are insects that might infest this plant. To prevent this problem, spray the plant with warm water regularly. For mild infestations, a mild soapy mixture applied to the leaves can help.
