Dieffenbachia Plant and Care

Dieffenbachia Plants Dieffenbachias, otherwise known as dumb cane as your throat will swell and you will lose your speech if you eat their foliage. Their stems of green, white and yellow leaves can grow up to 5 feet tall in the house. It also can cause skin irritation.
  • Dieffenbachias requires a warm temperature, ranging between 60 and 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Water regularly, but don't allow the soil to get soggy.
  • Give the plant moderate to bright light, but not direct sun. leaves lose their variegation if there is any lack of sunlight. dry, brown spots on leaves are caused by strong, direct sunlight.
  • It tolerates average room humidity. Humidity keeps the plant healthy and can be increased by placing trays of pebbles underneath the plant. Occasional misting with soft water and grouping with other plants also raises the humidity level for this plant.
  • Curled, crispy leaf tips indicate too much fertilizer. Flush soil with clean water to wash away any accumulated fertilizer.
  • The older leaves may turn yellow and drop off which is normal. If new leaves fall off, the plant is too cold. Keep it away from doorways or windows where could be exposed to cold drafts.
